From June 14 – 23, 2013 there will be Luminato festivities day and night at venues all over Toronto, many of them free. Everything you need to know you can find right HERE.
Here are some highlights.
—The Life and Death of Marina Abramovic: a new dramatic work by Robert Wilson conceived of as “the anti-Einstein on the Beach,” because it lasts only 45 minutes. The production is based on the life of the great performance artist, starring herself, Willem Dafoe, with music by Antony.
—Feng Yi Ting, a Chinese contemporary opera directed by Atom Egoyan.
–The Mark Morris Dance Group and Tafelmusik will perform L’Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato, a 1988 piece reckoned a classic by the American choreographer’s fans.
—Joni: A Portrait in Song Birthday Happening. The two-night Joni Mitchell tribute features Rufus Wainwright, drummer Brian Blade and others. –The Daisy Theatre.Ronnie Burkett’s Theatre of Marionettes showcases plays by ten Canadian playwrights.
–A turntable-driven headphone event by Kid Koala
–Daily free open-air concerts at David Pecaut Square by Laurie Anderson, Rosanne Cash, k-os, Serena Ryder, Patrick Watson, Danny Michel and the Carolina Chocolate Drops.
— Three events by the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, including a show with pianist Yuja Wang
—Lots of free literary readings and artists’ talks.
